Long overdue

I spoke with Chad this weekend.
So sorry for being so delayed in communicating on this, the good news is that Chad is really doing well.
In his words, he
S fat again, gaining an "equilibrium" is what he says, I say just eating too much.
He has made a few return trips for various tests but for the most part Chad is well. Please just pray for Chad and Kathy and the normal chaos of raising their family and being cancer free.
Chad did say this whole situation has brought his relationship with Jesus to a new level and he would want his friends and family to connect with Jesus with or without cancer.
Take care and if there's any new news I will let you know but not 5 months delayed.

Veterans in the Classroom

Hello, hope everyone's school year is off to a great start. I am sending out a message to anyone who has served in the military. I teach American History at Vinton-Shellsburg H.S. and feature veterans in my class. I would love to invite any former classmates to speak in my class. Don't worry, you will not be under a huge spotlight in front of the room(unless you would like), but you would be part of a group of other veterans. Students prepare questions that they ask in a small group setting. Material that is gathered will be used in their digital photostory projects. Students usually walk away from their interviews with a sense of true appreciation for our veterans and still talk to me about this experience after they graduate. Please let me know via email if you are interested or if you have questions.

Below is an update from Chip dated Aug 10th:

Hey there sorry it has been a while since updating this site on behalf of Chad. I spoke with Chad recently and he has finished his sixth out of seven chemo treatments.
He sounded great actually and I think Chad is greatly improved.
They did not give him any Methotrexate since he seems to be improving and his body is responding to the treatment.
However we are not out of the woods yet. Chad will go in August 24 for his final official chemo treatment, lets pray for his body to continue to be cancer free.
In the previous treatments the Methotrexate has been very difficult on his body. Lets pray for no fevers and no mouth sores, he is able to eat as well. (But Chad has never had a difficult time eating let's be honest) Pray for Chad and Kathy and their family as they continue to endure this process and pray for Jesus to be Glorified as Chad interacts with UIHC staff, and others who will ask him how he is managing during this stressful time.

Here is an update from Chip from July 17th.

Hey there sorry for the long time between updates.
I just got a text from Chad indicating that he is done with the 5th round of chemo which is good news.
Tough news is that he is back in the UIHC with fevers and mouth sores again. Pray for Chad's body to continue to fight off the cancerous cells. Chad did say that the chemo keeps being tougher on him I am sure physically and emotionally.
Please join me in praying for Chad and his family as they continue to deal with this whole process.

Update: Lucinda's surgery on her kidney went well. She had a cancer mass in that area that had to be removed. The doctor said they got it all and her treatment is complete. So happy for her and her family. God Bless!

Here is an update from Chip's website from May 30th........

Hey guys pretty positive update, I heard from Chad that the biopsy test done on his bone marrow results are in. Chad says, "Biopsy results showed no cancer cells in the marrow. The regimen is working. Praise the Lord!"
Good news indeed, Chad goes back in for his next wave of chemo treatment this Thursday. Pray for a "normal" few days with his family until he goes into the Hospital again this week for more chemotherapy.

I read a few updates. It looks like Chad is going to through his Chemo treatments now. Here is a insert from Chips website:

Chad is back at UIHC for the past couple of days.
He has a high fever and mouth sores, common side effects for ppl going through chemotherapy.
Pray for Chad to not have a fever and be able to go home and be with his family until his next cycle of chemo begins.

Chad, and wife Kathy (Kolsto) Szabo have 4 kids, the youngest being 7 months old, and they live on the west side of CR. Around Easter, Chad was diagnosed with lymphoma. He is currently receiving chemotherapy and his treatment will last 6 months.

Chad and Kathy are Jefferson alumni. He is now an administrator at Jefferson and Kathy is a PE teacher at Coolidge Elementary.

Please keep Chad, Kathy and their family in your thoughts and prayers as they face these challenges and fight cancer.

We are up to 59.5% class participation on the is website. That is so great. I would like to see more. I have talked to some classmates that have visited the site but have not created a profile. I do hope they reconsider. This is not just a social site to reconnect but also a useful tool for the reunion committee.
